How to make your profile matter

Creating a compelling profile statement is key to making your CV stand out.

The vast majority of the thousands of CVs we see simply summarise experience and list skills which does little to set you apart. Instead, make sure that you use the profile statement to emphasise the impact you have and the contributions you can make to a potential employer.

Here’s how to craft an effective and personable profile statement:

1. Highlight Your Unique Impact

Your profile statement should include a series of statements that define your top contributions to a business or organisation. These could be commercial, operational or any number of other achievements but they should be as relevant to your target role as possible. Simply put – if you want to run a sales function, be prepared to make some bold statements on your ability to win clients, grow revenues and build sales teams.

2. Use Compelling Bullet Points

We recommend that you use bullet points for your profile statement – with one bullet for each impact you make. This format not only captures attention but also ensures clarity, making it easy for potential employers to quickly grasp your key strengths.

3. Emphasise Value to the Employer

Think about what an employer needs and tailor your profile statement to meet those needs. This means focusing on how you can solve their problems and help them achieve their goals. By aligning your strengths with the employer’s priorities, you demonstrate your potential to contribute effectively and meaningfully to their organisation.

By focusing on your unique impact and using a concise, bullet-point format, your profile statement will stand out to potential employers, clearly communicating the value you bring to their organisation. This approach ensures that your CV captures attention and makes a lasting impression.
